Favorite Local Adventure: The Coral Pink Sand Dunes

Living in Kanab means you are located in the most perfect year-round base camp for exploring national parks, canyons, lakes, and desert landscapes. There are endless hidden gems, and there are adventures for everyone! As a Kanab local resident, I get to explore the ins & outs of the landscapes. 

This Week’s Adventure was to The Coral Pink Sand Dunes!

Because of the proximity to Kanab, this epic destination makes for the perfect place to ATV, Bike, hike, sled, take photos, or just have an afternoon picnic. An off-the-radar expanse of photographic and OHV bliss, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is where weekend warriors can leave footprints in soft sand or adventure on the vast off-road playground. Walk among old juniper, and pinion and ponderosa pines. Then take your shoes off to leave footprints in the orange-red sand dunes. These geological oddities were formed by the continual erosion of the nearby Navajo sandstone cliffs.

When my kids were little, we would come here to go sledding in the winters. We also spend the Easter season picnicking and riding ATV’s out in the soft vibrant sand. Now-a-days, this is the go-to place for an evening getaway to sunset watch and unwind.
